Goddess Interrupted is the second book in The Goddess Chronicles series by Aimee Carter. It was released on 6^th April by Mira Ink and the book is 304 pages long.

Plot

Kate Winters has won immortality. But if she wants a life with Henry in the Underworld, she'll have to fight for it. Becoming immortal wasn't supposed to be the easy part. Though Kate is about to be crowned Queen of the Underworld, she's as isolated as ever. And despite her growing love for Henry, ruler of the Underworld, he's becoming ever more distant and secretive. Then, in the midst of Kate's coronation, Henry is abducted by the only being powerful enough to kill him: the King of the Titans.

As the other gods prepare for a war that could end them all, it is up to Kate to save Henry from the depths of Tartarus. But in order to navigate the endless caverns of the Underworld, Kate must enlist the help of the one person who is the greatest threat to her future.

What I thought

As it had been a while since I read the first book in this series, it took a while for me to really get back into what was going on. I couldn’t quite remember what had happened in The Goddess Test so it was all a little bit confusing at first. This book begins about 6 months after the end of the first book, with protagonist Kate heading back to her husband Henry aka. Hades. Kate has been off spending time in Greece for the summer and hopes to get on with her new marriage and spend time with Henry. Unfortunately, Henry is acting distant and strange and everything is not as Kate had hoped.

I really liked Kate as a character. Although she does whine a fair bit about being in the shadow of Henry’s first wife Persephone, I think her reasons for doing so were justified. It has been openly said that she was the love of his life so Kate did have quite a lot to live up to. I also think that she coped really well with what was asked of her. Being split between worlds for 6 months of the year must be hard in itself but then to go ‘home’ to a cold and distant husband must have been so much worse. Kate is also a brave character even though she doubts herself sometimes.

Henry was my biggest problem in this book. I hated how he treats Kate for the most part of the book and I didn’t understand him at all. Luckily, this does get explained nearer the end of the book but there was so much waiting for it. Due to how Henry acts, there isn’t much dialogue between him and Kate and this was something that was missing for me. I could never really warm up to Henry because I felt as if I didn’t really know him as a character which was a shame. Now some things have been explained though, I’m hoping this aspect gets a bit better in the next book.

The plot for Goddess Interrupted was far more exciting than The Goddess Test. Instead of one bad guy, there are a couple in this book and both are completely different. I really enjoyed learning about these characters, their pasts and why they were doing certain things. The villains in this book are truly evil but also extremely entertaining at the same time. The tension that these characters brought to the plot was needed to let other things come through in the story.

The addition of the Titans in this book was something that made it fantastic for me. This addition added a whole different side to the story and made some things quite scary and creepy. I’m a huge fan of Greek mythology and this book has so much of it. Not only are the characters Gods and Goddesses, but there are other well-known characters thrown in there too for good measure. The mythology aspects of this book/ series are well detailed and time has been taken to explain who people are which is a great thing for anyone who isn’t sure or isn’t as familiar with the tales.   

I didn’t think I would like this book as much as the first but I actually liked it more. I couldn’t put it down!! I can’t wait for the third book now.
