Plot Synopsis

With her first major film coming out and after the catastrophe of her relationship with Reid being over, Emma is concentrating on what she really wants – a normal life and going to college. While checking out colleges in New York, Emma managed to run into Graham, the other co-star she had feelings for and now she is free to explore those feelings with him. Long distance relationships are hard though but worth if for the right person.

Just when Emma and Graham think they could have something really wonderful, Reid and his ex, Brooke have other ideas. Brooke is desperate to have Graham all to herself and joins forces with Reid to break up the perfect couple. But, can Emma and Graham’s relationship withstand all of the secrets and lies?

What I thought

The first book in this series, Between The Lines was the first New Adult book I read that wasn’t full of needless sex scenes. It was also the first in a completely different setting which was great to read. I couldn’t wait to get back into Emma’s world. As this is a review for the second book in a series, there will be minor spoilers for the first book.

In Where You Are, filming has finished and Emma is able to get on with her normal life… or as normal as it can be anyway. She still has interviews and press to deal with in the run up to the release of her first film. But, she also wants to go to college afterwards and New York seems to be her first choice. It helps that Graham, the guy she really likes, lives there too. The first book in this series focused mainly on Emma and Reid so it was really nice for Emma and Graham to finally get their own story. However, due to the nature of the plot, there are also chapters told by Reid and Brooke as well.

Instead of being set completely in the world of movie making, this book concentrates more on what happens after. While Emma is trying to get on with her life, she still has to deal with press and interviews in the lead up to the film being released. While this takes Emma away from Graham, it does mean that she has to spend a lot of time with Reid, the leading actor. As Reid has teamed up with Brooke to split up Emma and Graham, it was interesting to see how Emma and Reid got on compared with in the previous book. Reid seems to be the same guy I thought he was before – conniving, selfish and utterly charming. While he did have ulterior motives, it was hard not to think that he really did feel something for Emma but I was never completely sure.

Speaking of Reid and Brookes plan… she is a crazy bitch from hell. She will stop at nothing in order to get what she wants and she really doesn’t care who she hurts on the way. As insane as I thought Brooke was, I was also able to sympathise with her a little bit… and I do mean a little bit. She was really sad and a bit broken and while she didn’t go about things in the right way, she did just want to be happy with the best person she had ever known. It was a shame that there wasn’t more character development with Brooke as I really wanted to see her change but hopefully that will happen in another book.

Something that I was glad to see in Where You Are is the explanations about the past. With the revelations revealed at the end of Between The Lines, I was so glad to get to know more about Graham’s life. In this book, we get to find out more about his past with Brooke, his first love as well as the mother of his baby – a secret he keeps well-guarded. Graham is a person with quite a lot of intense feelings and I really liked that about him. He definitely doesn’t do things by halves but that is because of things that have happened in his past. It really was great to get into Graham’s head more and to be able to understand him.

I really enjoyed reading Emma and Graham’s story along with all of the problems they face along the way. Both characters were fantastic on their own but also really great together. I actually think that Where You Are was a better book than Between The Lines but mostly because I liked the interaction with the characters more. I can’t wait to see what Tammara Webber comes up with next.
